Rep. Oliverson Receives Committee Assignments for the 86th Legislature 150 150 Dr. Tom Oliverson

On January 23, 2019, I was named Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Insurance, and I was also appointed to the Committees on Natural Resources and Calendars.

I am honored to serve on these committees and acknowledge the trust placed in me by Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen. I am dedicated to serving my constituents to the best of my ability and look forward to advocating on behalf of House District 130.

The House Committee on Natural Resources presides over legislation relating to the conservation, development, and use of Texas’ land and water resources and energy. The Committee will have a big impact on HD-130 as it deals with legislation related to flooding, a priority for my district after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

The House Committee on Insurance will be chaired by State Representative Eddie Lucio III (D-Brownsville). I am working on legislation which aims to make health insurance more affordable for Texans and lower the cost of healthcare.

The House Committee on Calendars is an important procedural committee that oversees the placement of legislation onto a schedule for representatives to debate bills. I will have an opportunity to weigh in on legislation that covers a wide array of issues.

During my freshman session, I successfully passed several pieces of legislation and was named “Freshman of the 85th Session” by the Texas House Republican Caucus. I look forward to working on meaningful legislation again this session.
