Public Safety Wins: Bills Sent to the Governor

Public Safety Wins: Bills Sent to the Governor

Public Safety Wins: Bills Sent to the Governor 1024 536 Dr. Tom Oliverson

Friends,

I’m proud to share some important news: two bills I authored to protect law enforcement in Harris County have passed the Texas Legislature and are now headed to the Governor’s desk.

House Bill 192 protects Harris County law enforcement funding from political games. If county leaders want to cut funding, they must first get voter approval—plain and simple.

House Bill 26 safeguards Harris County’s Contract Deputy Program, which allows neighborhoods, schools, and local entities to contract directly with sheriffs and constables for extra law enforcement. HB 26 guarantees this successful program continues without interference.

Together, these bills ensure our officers have the resources and flexibility they need to keep our communities safe—and that neighborhoods and schools can continue receiving the security they rely on.

I will always work to protect public safety resources in Harris County!

God Bless,

Tom Oliverson, M.D.
