House Bill 1078 allows Texans to renew their driver’s license or CHL for free if they show proof of a current CPR card. This goal of this bill is to increase the number of CPR certified Texans by providing an incentive.
There are approx. 17 million licensed drivers in Texas. If even 1% took advantage of this, we would have an additional 170,000 Texans who are trained. Imagine what that would do for survival rates from an out of hospital cardiac arrest. Now imagine 10% and add in the CHL holders. There would be more than 2.5 million additional CPR trained Texans.
It only takes 10 minutes of no blood flow for the brain to die, and EMS response times may often be outside that window. I hope many of you will take advantage of this new law- somebody’s life depends on it.
